Trader Spotlight: The Klei Store
Klei Store, located at 269 High Street Northcote, is a vibrant hub of creativity lovingly curated by owners Barbara and Ben.
What began with crafting ceramic pieces and selling them at markets gradually evolved into a diverse range of clothing and jewellery. Recognising the need to showcase their expanding collection, they eventually opened a physical store to bring their vision to life.
And so, for the past 11 years, this dynamic duo has been a beloved fixture in the Northcote Rise community.
Today, The Klei Store is a true reflection of their passion for handmade and locally sourced goods. About a quarter of the items in-store are made by Barbara and Ben themselves, allowing them to spend part of their week creating in their studio and the rest connecting with customers.
The other carefully selected items come from local makers, feature recycled materials, or are pre-loved treasures, adding a unique touch to the store’s offerings.
Among the most popular products are their distinctive earrings, stylish sunnies, and an ever-growing pre-loved clothing section, which evolved after a successful stall at the Northcote Rise festival.
Their limited-production small scale approach ensures the store is always filled with fresh, exciting pieces, making it a go-to for locals who love discovering something new.
What truly sets Klei Store apart is the heart behind it—Barbara and Ben’s dedication to mindful living, supporting local artisans, and building a space that feels as warm and welcoming as the Northcote community they love. Barbara & Ben also enjoy the close-knit camaraderie among Northcote Rise traders, appreciating the support and creativity that flows through.
