Trader Spotlight: Save the Children
At Save the Children Op Shop (292 High Street, Northcote), change is in the air! The store has had a refresh, with a dedicated team working hard to clean, organise, and create a welcoming space for shoppers and donors.
As the longest-running op shop on High Street, it’s an essential part of the Northcote Rise community, supporting a global mission to help children in crisis.
For over 100 years, Save the Children has made a difference worldwide, from providing aid to children in emergencies to supporting early learning programs in Australia.
The Northcote store is run entirely by volunteers and needs more helping hands to keep the doors open longer. Jacob, who supports four stores, is the first paid op shop manager in Save the Children’s Melbourne stores, ensuring these vital community spaces stay open.
Jacob is an invaluable part of Save the Children and Northcote Rise. As a recipient of the prestigious Elvie Munday Churchill Fellowship, they are a leading force in social services and charity retail. With High Street becoming a thrift shop hub, having Jacob here is a true advantage.
The store has an amazing mix of pre-loved and brand-new stock, donated by the community and corporate partners—making it a treasure trove of sustainable fashion and homewares.
Jacob and the team love the mix of characters in Northcote, noting there’s a bohemian spirit but a more polished feel than other northern high streets. Like the rest of the community, Jacob is excited to see Northcote Rise becoming a second-hand hub.
