Trader Spotlight: Northcote IGA
Northcote IGA at 284–288 High Street Northcote has been a local staple for over 17 years, with owner Steve transforming two previous businesses into a thriving supermarket in 2008. Northcote IGA’s focus has always been on offering something different — from organic, vegan, gluten-free, biodynamic, eco-friendly and ethically sourced products to smaller pack sizes suited to the area’s apartments/smaller homes and family demographics.
The store employs between 18 and 25 staff across three daily shifts, ensuring excellent service seven days a week. The store is dedicated to sourcing unique products and specialty lines for customers that are not available in bigger chains. Northcote IGA prides itself on balancing core supermarket offerings with sustainable, eco-friendly, and innovative options.
Steve is also passionate about community engagement, supporting local schools, charities, and festivals with donations and sponsorship wherever he can. He prioritises keeping shopping local, supporting inner-city suppliers, and employing staff from the surrounding area.
The store reflects the diverse, vibrant character of High Street Northcote, providing customers with a shopping experience that goes beyond the standard supermarket visit. Steve’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and community makes Northcote IGA more than just a grocery store — it’s a hub for local life and connection.
