Trader Spotlight: Glimpse Art Space
Glimpse Art Space is a contemporary art space with a beckoning glass doorway onto High Street, Northcote.
Under the directorship of Melanie Hoult since 2021 (previously established by Julie Milton in 2013), Glimpse is one of Northcote Rise’s hidden gems. Located to the side of 273 High Street behind a glass door, it is a vibrant little gallery that has been a creative outlet for artists since it was founded over a decade ago.
Nestled in a unique spot on the street, it’s a community-focused space where emerging and established artists alike can showcase their work, often for the first time. What sets Glimpse apart is its intimate, inclusive environment—making it accessible to all kinds of artists, including those just starting out who might otherwise feel too intimidated to exhibit their pieces.
The gallery is free to use, with a simple application process that invites local and visiting artists to share their creativity. The exhibitions rotate every four weeks, offering fresh and diverse works for the community to enjoy. In addition to visual art, Glimpse has hosted performances, installations, and even shows from disability groups and local schools, creating a welcoming space for everyone.
This spot thrives because it’s not just about art—it’s about connection. Whether it’s a first-time artist seeing their work displayed or a local walking by and stopping to take in the glow of the gallery at night, Glimpse Art Space is a truly special part of Northcote Rise’s cultural landscape.
