Trader Spotlight: All Are Welcome

All Are Welcome at 190 High Street, Northcote, is more than just a bakery—it’s a cornerstone of the community, where owner and pastry chef Boris Portnoy has created a space that invites everyone to experience the art of bread and pastry.

For the past seven years, Boris has transformed the former Christian Science Bookstore reading room into a bakery that’s become legendary, not only in Northcote but also beyond, with additional locations in Thornbury and Ivanhoe.

The name “All Are Welcome” was serendipitously inherited from the gold-lettered phrase adorning the building’s front door, making it a fitting moniker for a place that feels like a daily devotion for bread lovers.

Stepping inside, you’re greeted by a feast for the eyes. Racks are filled with an array of loaves, from the staple ‘city sourdough’ to the more intricate seeded varieties, and unique options like olive with preserved lemon and rosemary sourdough.

But the delights don’t stop at bread.

The pastry selection is irresistible, featuring everything from croissants and pain au chocolat to morning buns, bostocks, and decadent brownies. Savoury options like Italian pork sausage rolls and 3-cheese khachapuri (a traditional Georgian dish) offer something for everyone. And during the festive seasons, the bakery bustles with the aromas of hot cross buns and mince pies, making it a must-visit.

Boris understands the dynamic tastes of his customers, blending innovation with quality to make All Are Welcome a favourite spot for locals and visitors. His knack for offering both exciting new flavours and beloved staples has built a reputable business that fits perfectly into our vibrant Northcote Rise community.

Come visit All Are Welcome to experience the exceptional flavours and warm hospitality that have made it a beloved local gem.
